The CALS Staff Council is initiating a rice donation for the SHOP (Students Helping Our Peers) Food Pantry that will run until February 27th. Pick up a bag or two of 1 pound long-grain white rice and drop it off at one of the locations:
- 201 Curtiss Hall
- 1221 Kildee Atrium
- 2312 Food Science Building
- 1344 ATRB
- 1210 MBB
- 2104 Agronomy
- 4-H Extension or
- with a Council Member.
Adventure 2 participants can earn a one-time 25 points by recording donations using this link.
Why is SHOP so important?
- 16,500 visits last year
- Disbursed 200,000 lbs of food - roughly 150,000 meals
- 1350 visits per month last year; 500 visits per week already this academic year
- Open 3 days -= 15 hours per week
- Monday 12:00 - 5:00
- Tuesday 12:00 - 5:00
- Wednesday 2:00 - 7:00
- 1/3 of students at ISU face food insecurity - (~10,000 students)
Other ways to help at SHOP include volunteering to work a 2-hour shift (training is required), or help move food when delivered (no training).
Volunteer is encouraged, but any help is welcome.
